Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?

The Tea Party movement is a wonderful thing, and may be the backbone that saves this country. It is truly grassroots, full of people who, like myself, have never been an activist in their entire life, and are dedicated in preserving the founding documents and the principles of the Founding Fathers. What liberals have been trying to do to destroy them for the last 100 years, Obama has done in 18 months! The Supreme Court is next, and once that task has been accomplished, he will have supreme power. They don't call it the Supreme Court for nothing.

The one way dictators take power is by an uninvolved public, which is why the Tea Party movement is a wonderful thing. The silent majority is alive and well, and better be on its toes. We have a critical election coming up in 4 short months, thank God, but a lot can happen between now and then. Before Obama loses his malevolent power, he will be 'focused like a laser' to pass his government takeover agenda by hook or by crook, more likely the latter, for this man knows no bounds.

From Investor's Business Daily, Thomas Sowell has written another brilliant piece about our slippery slope to serfdom. The latest Obama assault on our constitutional government is the shake down of BP, and confiscating personal property without the legislative process.  Let us not become "Useful Idiots", as Lenin said. When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.

Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler's rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.

"Useful idiots" was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union.

Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive, or ultimately even survive.

In our times, American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece, before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and few people seem to be concerned about it.

The president's poll numbers are going down because increasing numbers of people disagree with particular policies of his, but the damage being done to the fundamental structure of this nation goes far beyond particular counterproductive policies.

Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a president has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he deems worthy of compensation? Nowhere.

And yet that is precisely what is happening with a $20 billion fund to be provided by BP to compensate people harmed by their oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Many among the public and in the media may think that the issue is simply whether BP's oil spill has damaged many people, who ought to be compensated.

But our government is supposed to be "a government of laws and not of men."

If our laws and our institutions determine that BP ought to pay $20 billion — or $50 billion or $100 billion — then so be it.

But the Constitution says that private property is not to be confiscated by the government without "due process of law."

Technically, it has not been confiscated by Barack Obama, but that is a distinction without a difference.

With vastly expanded powers of government available at the discretion of politicians and bureaucrats, private individuals and organizations can be forced into accepting the imposition of powers that were never granted to the government by the Constitution.

If you believe that the end justifies the means, then you don't believe in constitutional government.

And, without constitutional government, freedom cannot endure. There will always be a "crisis" — which, as the president's chief of staff has said, cannot be allowed to "go to waste" as an opportunity to expand the government's power.

That power will of course not be confined to BP or to the particular period of crisis that gave rise to the use of that power, much less to the particular issues.

When Franklin D. Roosevelt arbitrarily took the United States off the gold standard, he cited a law passed during the First World War to prevent trading with the country's wartime enemies. But there was no war when FDR ended the gold standard's restrictions on the printing of money.

At about the same time, during the worldwide Great Depression, the German Reichstag passed a law "for the relief of the German people."

That law gave Hitler dictatorial powers that were used for things going far beyond the relief of the German people — indeed, powers that ultimately brought a rain of destruction down on the German people and on others.

If the agreement with BP was an isolated event, perhaps we might hope that it would not be a precedent. But there is nothing isolated about it.

The man appointed by President Obama to dispense BP's money as the administration sees fit, to whomever it sees fit, is only the latest in a long line of presidentially appointed "czars" controlling different parts of the economy, without even having to be confirmed by the Senate, as Cabinet members are.

Those who cannot see beyond the immediate events to the issues of arbitrary power — vs. the rule of law and the preservation of freedom — are the "useful idiots" of our time. But useful to whom?

WHEN IN THE COURSE OF HUMAN EVENTS....

The Declaration of Independence was written by some of the most brilliant minds God and Man ever created. Written by men and women who had lived through one of the worst tyrannical rules in history. Most of the time, people don't think about the Declaration of Independence, until recently. Over the years, we have seen the chipping away at the edges of our Constitution, believing that the people we elected would protect it and our freedoms -- until the election of Barack Hussein Obama. Now, with a narcissistic psychopath in the White House, all hell has broken loose.

This magnificent document created our country, once and for all separating us from tyrannical Great Britian. It begins "When in the course of human events....", and gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. But then, I was raised in an era where our American history was proudly taught, with arduous projects assigned that, once completed, you never forgot. Some of us were lucky enough to participate in the most memorable of field trips, up and down the eastern states to all the pivotal colonial sites.

We are witnessing the dismantle of this document, and are beginning to look more like the countries we are fighting. Obama is ruling, not leading, not protecting, and certainly not presidential. He [and his ilk] is going to decide what is best for you, whether you want it or not. You don't have a choice, and you certainly don't have a voice. Sound familiar yet?

That this inexperienced travesty of a chief executive, Obama, more a byproduct of timing and media collaboration, than his own worth, or accomplishment, is personally advocating for the so-called nuclear option is the final straw.

It’s official. After months of threatening to push the button on the so-called nuclear option, reconciliation — the parliamentary maneuver that Harry Reid said “nobody” is talking about and that President Obama said Americans didn’t care about last week — is a go.

Reconcile this, you distasteful, malevolent little quisling punk - a timely reminder of some words I never thought would have such import during my lifetime.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

The cause is well known and it is just. When the alleged leader of a democratic republic places his own wishes so above those of the complete body politic, he is no longer worthy of the title, leader, no matter what office he might occupy.

Only a fool with no clear appreciation of, or for, America past and present, would dare undertake what this pustule in the White House is attempting to do. It is contingent upon the Republican Party to undertake every step, every maneuver it can to bring this government to a halt.

Tell me now how wrong Bunning was to do as he did, yesterday? Whose side are those Republicans who didn't support him really on, ours, or merely their own? If the GOP lacks the courage, or the ability to stop this pathetic power grab by the un-American, decadent Left - an ideology that has already failed over and over throughout much of the world - then it becomes not just a right, but a responsibility for the American people to take their country back from the political elites that have already bankrupted it. And after that, they now seek to do even more harm by capitalizing on a crisis.

They confessed as much via ex-ballerina Rahm Emanuel, hence, they deserve no respect, or just due, as they are self-admittedly, an unjust crew. It is time to stop this government in its tracks, take it back democratically in the fall, or it then becomes time to bring this government down.

This neophyte, this joke we have in the White House has absolutely no idea of the force and the rage he is about to unleash on him and his entire political party. If there are not enough responsible adults left within his party to rein in this accidental, affirmative action jerk, this self-styled, extremely flawed little man, then his party is worthless to America. It deserves to be marginalized electorally and, ultimately, utterly destroyed, before being relegated to the dung heap of history with the rest of the marxist, socialist clowns Americans have dispatched before.

Reconciliation for this disaster of a destructive health care bill I doubt anyone on the Hill can fully define means all out war. The only question remaining is, whose side are you on?

WHEN TYRANNY CALLS

In a town hall setting during last year's presidential campaign, Obama touted that if we want to know who he is, look at the people who surround him. He rattled off several middle of the roaders, which we know today is hogwash.

Well, let's look at the people who surround this man: Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayres, Bernardine Dohrn, and presently members of his administration, Cass Sunstein, Anita Dunn, Van Jones, Rahm "Dead Fish" Emanual, Carol Browner, John Holdren, to name a few left wing radicals.

In explanation for her "yes" vote on the Max Baucus created health care bill, Maine Senator Olympia Snowe said:

"Is this bill all that I would want? Far from it. Is it all that it can be? No. But when history calls, history calls."

Senator Snowe is probably right. History is calling. What she has wrong is history's message. History is calling with the warning that tyranny is at our doorstep.

The tyranny that threatens us is not the same brand as the violent police states of the 20th century. Tyranny in America will look more like the misguided utopianism that has taken England from being the greatest, freest nation on earth to the frail remains of a world power it is today.

History called on England in the aftermath of World War II. During the war, the Axis Powers threatened England's very existence. In such dire circumstances it became necessary for the entire country to work under central direction to achieve its military objectives. However, after the Allied Forces retook Europe, England believed that wartime-style government planning should continue. The government proceeded to dismantle what, in many ways, was once the freest economy in world history.

Now, over 60 years later, we see the results. England -- the leader of the industrial revolution, the empire over which the sun never set, the parent of so many of the great modern republics -- has descended into doldrums of mediocrity.

The permanency of that decline was put into perspective by a recent New York Times article. The article laments the failure of Socialist Parties in countries across Europe. At first glance the report leaves the reader a little stunned at the NYT's open sorrow over the failure of European leftism. But a closer look reveals a bleak reality. The article states:

Europe's center-right parties have embraced many ideas of the left: generous welfare benefits, nationalized health care, sharp restrictions on carbon emissions, the ceding of some sovereignty to the European Union. But they have won votes by promising to deliver more efficiently than the left, while working to lower taxes, improve financial regulation, and grapple with aging populations.

Europe's conservatives, says Michel Winock, a historian at the Paris Institut d'Études Politiques, "have adapted themselves to modernity."

It's not that socialism is in decline in Europe; it's that socialism no longer has any opposition.

The things that made Europe (particularly England) great have been swallowed up by government's unrelenting appetite. No longer do politicians seek office as protectors of life, liberty and property -- they seek only to run the oppressive bureaucratic state more efficiently.

The catalyst to this permanent leftist political climate is health care. Other government programs are specifically targeted to the poor, the aged or other relatively small groups. Social Security, for example, has become a political sledge hammer against those who try to reform it. But Social Security recipients make up only a minority of voters at any given time.

If Obama's health care overhaul passes, it will reach across all age demographics and into nearly every income bracket. Health care legislation will quickly gain a political force surpassing Social Security. Once that happens, the only way to win elections will be to promise not to touch government health care. Every politician will have to accept and even endorse issues that are now only championed by the far left.

Only such a weighty political payoff would prompt reelection-obsessed politicians to so thoroughly ignore opinion polls. Fox News' latest numbers show an overwhelming split of 54% against 35% for the current health care proposals. Despite the sour public opinion, the legislation continues to progress through congress. The Democrats are willing to lose battles in polling and even the next election because they believe they are about to win the war.

The history calling Senator Snowe agrees. If health care passes, it will not represent the beginning of the end -- the beginning took place long ago. But it may signal the end of the beginning, the end of the period in which liberty has its chance to beat back statism.

American freedom has been bent, and bent, and bent for nearly 100 hundred years. Like post World War II socialization of England, health care may prove to be America's breaking point.

History is calling. Who will hear her?
